ODYSSEA is Volume IV of SYMFAUNIA® — a 120GB Kontakt instrument built from the living voices and movements of ocean wildlife, transformed into expressive, playable and cinematic musical material.
Whales, dolphins, seals, sea lions, marine birdlife and other aquatic organisms become expressive leads, pulses, drones, organic percussion, transitions and evolving textures. Play the ocean like a living instrument, shaping songs, clicks, whistles, breath and aquatic movement with non-vibrato, vibrato, flutter, short (staccato), trills, runs, falls, rises, SFX and mordents — turning marine behavior into melody, rhythm, motion and performance.
Move from a distant whale call to a vast melodic phrase, from dolphin clicks to agile rhythmic detail, or from breath, surf and coastal movement to slow-building cinematic tension. Each articulation gives you another way to perform the marine world rather than simply trigger a recording, while preserving the depth, fluidity and unmistakable character of the living source.
Rooted in oceans and coastal environments, ODYSSEA turns marine animal presence into composition. Its established sources include whales, dolphins, seals, sea lions, marine birdlife and other aquatic organisms — treated not as decorative ambience, but as raw material that can be performed, layered, stretched and reshaped.
The identity of the source remains perceptible. A song can become harmony. A click can become rhythm. A whistle can become a melodic gesture. Breath, motion and resonance can expand into cinematic depth, atmosphere, tension or tonal character.
Songs, calls, clicks, whistles, breath, pulses and aquatic movement are shaped into an expressive performance language. Move between non-vibrato and vibrato, introduce flutter or precise short (staccato) gestures, build fluid motion with trills and runs, or create expressive transitions with falls, rises, mordents and SFX. Each articulation lets you phrase the ocean with intention — from intimate, close-detail gestures to wide cinematic movement and deep sustained resonance.
Keep the recognizable identity of the source when you want organic realism, or push it into new territory through pitching, layering, automation and sound design. The result is more than a collection of ocean recordings: it is a responsive palette built around flow, expression and transformation — sounds that can drift, surface, pulse, dive, circle, recede and suddenly open into immense space.
Every zone of the marine world brings a different sonic identity. Whales contribute scale, resonance and long-form emotion; dolphins bring agility, brightness and articulated movement; seals and sea lions add breath, body and coastal character; marine birdlife introduces air, height and exposed shoreline perspective; while other aquatic organisms provide the smaller movements and textures that make underwater space feel continuously alive.
That same palette can suggest very different territories — open ocean, surf, rocky coast, distant beach, cold-water horizon or the edge of glacial seas. Around the wildlife core, the art direction carries a restrained Atlantis- and ancient Greek-inspired sense of submerged stone, weathered marble, geometric order and deep-blue monumentality — used only as a subtle marketing accent, never as a claim about the origin of the recordings and never taking focus away from marine wildlife itself.
ODYSSEA is built to move between fragility and power, intimacy and immensity, stillness and continuous motion. Its palette can suggest a distant call beneath black water, playful movement near the surface, birds crossing a storm-lit coast, breath on a cold shoreline or a vast frozen horizon opening beyond the sea.
Use that contrast as a compositional tool — from barely perceptible organic detail to the defining identity of a cue. The sounds can live inside the environment or rise forward as a completely transformed musical voice.
